Plate compactors are best for gravel, sand or silt and larger areas and compact through vibration (as opposed to impact, which is used by Trench Rammers). Plate compacters do not compact as deep as Trench Rammers, but can be used on larger areas and can also be used on all soils.
Things to consider when selecting a plate compactor:
- Centrifugal force
- Vibration per minute (VPM)
- The durability of the plate
- Additional features required (e.g. water tank or transport wheels)
Generally cast ductile iron plates are better suited for compaction, while a higher VPM is better suited for asphalt and granular materials. The amplitude (stroke length) and weight are usually a better indication of performance than the centrifugal force.

Shipping
Reinforcing Products
Our reinforcing products are shipped from several locations across New Zealand. If during the checkout process you find that we cannot ship to your selected address, please contact us via our live chat or e-mail reinforcing@buildquip.co.nz for a shipping quote. Please include the product(s), delivery address and required delivery date.
All reinforcing products will usually ship out within 2-3 business days (see below for urgent orders). Links, Stirrups, Corner Bars & Starter Bars (if not in stock) might only be shipped within 2-5 days to allow for the bars to be cut and bent, depending on the workload of our manufacturers.
For smaller orders (bar chairs, links, stirrups) your order may be delivered by couriers or a freight company to your job site or business address.
For larger (heavier) orders or any 6m (or longer) reinforcing bar or mesh orders, our deliveries are usually made via flat deck truck to our Customers' business or construction site. Small orders can be offloaded by hand. For larger orders our Customers need to provide a forklift / crane / digger / manitou to offload at site - alternatively please contact us if Hiab truck delivery is required.
Machinery and General Site Supplies
We aim to ship out all orders within 1-2 business days after receiving payment.
At this stage please be advised that all plate compactors, reversible plate compactors, trench rammers and roller compactors will be delivered to your closest Mainstream Freight Depot and must be collected within 3 working days after reaching your local Mainstream Freight Depot. Please visit Mainstream's website to find their closest depot - click on any of the stars on their map to reveal the address.
We may from time to time have your order delivered to your specified address directly by our Business Partners and/or Suppliers' vehicles in order to save you time and money.
Urgent Orders
If your order is more urgent than forgetting about your wedding anniversary, please contact us via live chat or e-mail support@buildquip.co.nz to find out if we are able to send your order to your site urgently. We will get in touch with our suppliers to find you the fastest, most economical option.
Combined Orders
When ordering multiple products from different product categories (for example Reinforcing Bar and Plate Compactors) you may see combined / different shipping rates during the checkout process. Due to the different shipping methods used by some of our suppliers, we might not always be able to ship different categories of products together (for example Reinforcing Bar and Plate Compactors) on the same day. If you encounter an error message during the checkout process when calculating shipping costs, please try to order the products separately or alternatively please flick us a quick message via our online chat or e-mail support@buildquip.co.nz for a shipping quote.
Order Confirmation
As soon as we receive your order we automatically check to confirm that your order is in stock and available for immediate shipment. If your item(s) are available for immediate shipment we will process the charges and get to work preparing your order for shipment.
If your order is not available for immediate shipment, then we won't charge your card and we'll reach out to you via e-mail to find out if you'd be happy to wait a few days or if your order requires to be processed urgently. We pride ourselves in our top level communication and customer service!
Order Shipment
If your order is in stock and we process the charges to your credit card it will ship within 1-2 business days from the date of payment for your order. We will send you shipping confirmation within 24 hours of your order leaving the warehouse to the e-mail address you provided when checking out. If you do not receive shipping confirmation from us within 2-3 business days of your order feel free to follow up with us at support@buildquip.co.nz.
Damages
Please inspect the packaging of your item(s) when they arrive, if you notice any damage you should make note of it when signing for delivery or do not agree to accept the delivery. If you do accept delivery you are required to immediately take photos using your smart phone or camera of the damaged packaging or products inside the packaging. If your item(s) do arrived damaged please send photos to support@buildquip.co.nz then visit our Easy Returns page and lodge your return claim online.
